Job Description
We are seeking a Protection & Control Substation Engineer responsible for designing and implementing protection schemes, coordinating technical projects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams and providing guidance to less experienced team members. The position is primarily office-based but may occasionally require fieldwork.
Responsibilities:
- Design cost-effective protection schemes and develop schematic drawings.
- Execute complex assignments using advanced electrical engineering techniques.
- Develop design basis documentation for protective settings and generate relay configuration files.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineers, designers, and field personnel.
- Schedule and coordinate activities related to purchasing, drafting, and construction of protection components.
- Create, review, and manage project deliverables including design packages and vendor equipment drawings.
- Facilitate client communication and project meetings to ensure alignment and satisfaction.
- Support field activities including site assessments and data collection.
- Provide consulting services on system protective device coordination and automation.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, engineering codes, and applicable regulations.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills to solve technical problems.
- Promote collaboration, team cohesion, and attention to detail in all project phases.
- Train, guide, and mentor less experienced team members.
Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience in engineering control & protection systems, relay & surge protection, and relay settings for transmission and/or distribution systems.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- PE Electrical and Computer: Power Certification required.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with an emphasis on collaboration.
- Experience with designing calculations including short circuit calculation and relay loadability calculation.
- Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, WinIGS, ASPEN, CAPE, etc.
- Development experience with native relay setting files using SEL's AcSELerator and Client's Enervista software.
- Ability to perform Grounding, Arc Flash, and other power system studies.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and PDF software.
- Strong focus on collaboration and meticulous attention to detail.
