Prototype Engineer - Rotating Machinery

Madden Industrial Craftsmen is seeking an experienced Technician / Prototype Engineer to support the build and development of precision rotating machinery used in advanced energy systems.

This is a hands-on role focused on assembling, machining, and prototyping turbine and generator systems. You’ll work closely with engineers to build and refine complex mechanical assemblies while supporting rapid prototype development.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving practical engineering challenges, building complex hardware, and working in an R&D environment.

Pay: $50-65/hr+

Prototype Engineer Responsibilities:

• Assemble turbine and generator components including rotors, stators, shafts, bearings, and housings

• Perform precision alignment of rotating assemblies including rotor–stator airgap verification

• Support prototype builds, testing, teardown, and design iterations

• Perform machining operations such as lathe, milling, drilling, and grinding as needed

• Design and fabricate custom fixtures, jigs, and assembly tooling

• Create basic CAD models or drawings for fixtures and tooling

• Perform dimensional inspection using precision metrology tools

• Work with engineers to improve manufacturability and assembly processes

Prototype Engineer Qualifications:

• Experience assembling precision mechanical or rotating equipment (turbines, motors, generators, compressors, etc.)

• Strong hands-on mechanical and machining skills

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

• Familiarity with precision measurement tools

• Experience in prototype, R&D, or advanced manufacturing environments preferred

• Fixture design, CAD, GD&T, or CNC experience is a plus
