Description

Care Alliance Health Center is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide compassionate, evidence-based behavioral healthcare within an integrated primary care and behavioral health model.

About the Role

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, treatment planning, and behavioral health care. This role works closely with medical providers, behavioral health clinicians, care coordinators, Community Health Workers, and community partners to support coordinated, patient-centered care.

The PMHNP reports to the Medical Director and works in collaboration with the Director of Behavioral Health to support clinical integration, behavioral health program development, and interdisciplinary teamwork.

What You'll Do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental status examinations.
  • Diagnose and treat psychiatric and substance use disorders across the lifespan.
  • Assess suicide risk, homicide risk, and other behavioral health safety concerns.
  • Develop differential diagnoses using DSM-5-TR criteria.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications within scope of practice.
  • Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and patient adherence.
  • Provide medication education to patients and families.
  • Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers, behavioral health clinicians, and specialty providers.
  • Refer patients to higher levels of behavioral health care when clinically appropriate.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and case consultations.
  • Support care coordination for patients with complex behavioral health and medical needs.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and recovery goals.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation in Epic.
  • Participate in quality improvement, peer review, department meetings, and organizational initiatives.

Work Environment

This position works in outpatient clinical settings with frequent interaction among patients, medical providers, behavioral health clinicians, and interdisciplinary teams. Occasional travel between Care Alliance clinic locations may be required to support behavioral health services.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current Ohio Registered Nurse license
  • Current Ohio Certificate of Authority
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Current DEA registration with prescriptive authority
  • Current BLS certification
  • Eligibility for credentialing and privileging

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of psychiatric prescribing experience
  • Experience working in integrated behavioral health, primary care, community mental health, or an FQHC
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record
  • Experience caring for underserved populations
