Overview
Job Description
- Collaborate with VA Mental Health staff on inpatient care duties, including:
- Operating and collaborating on physician patient caseloads
- Seeing 1C/1D Psychiatry Service ward patients
- Admitting and diagnosing patients
- Developing individualized treatment plans
- Managing and performing timely treatment
- Coordinating discharge and transfer
- Completing all required medical record documentation
- See all new patient referrals with accompanying medical records
- Provide care for severely mentally ill patients
- Perform evaluation, disposition, and E-consult services
- Conduct post-discharge follow-up; patients must be seen within 30 days of discharge
- Operate the clinic, examine patients, and interpret reports as required by the VA
- Work collaboratively with VA staff across various clinic settings
- Provide professional psychiatric expertise for peer review of selected cases
- Review includes tort claims, patient and family complaints, Mental Health case reviews, and benefit appeals
- A skilled, compassionate psychiatrist dedicated to providing high-quality care to veterans
- Committed to meeting or exceeding nationally recognized standards of psychiatric care
- A collaborative professional who works effectively with VA Mental Health staff, residents, and multidisciplinary teams
- Detail-oriented and proactive in clinical documentation, compliance, and reporting
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
- No history of restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered, or denied licensure in any jurisdiction
- Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or equivalent
- Demonstrated proficiency in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care, including the full scope of services listed above
