Job Description
Job Title: Chief Medical Officer (CMO) - Psychiatrist
Location: Medical Lake, WA
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Salary: $330,000 - $370,000 annually (Depends on experience)
Schedule: 8 am- 5 pm | Monday- Friday | 40 hours weekly
Overview: Seeking a physician leader (MD or DO) to serve as Chief Medical Officer for a large behavioral health hospital. The CMO provides executive-level oversight of all medical, psychiatric, and clinical operations, ensuring safe, high-quality, and compliant care for patients in a secure, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide medical and clinical leadership across psychiatry, internal medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health departments.
Oversee and mentor attending psychiatrists, physicians, and advanced practice providers.
Develop, implement, and monitor clinical policies, treatment protocols, and performance standards.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards (Joint Commission, CMS, etc.).
Lead quality improvement, safety, and risk management programs.
Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and medical staff development.
Collaborate with administrative and legal leadership to manage complex behavioral health and forensic populations.
Represent the medical staff in internal and external stakeholder meetings.
Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Required Qualifications
MD or DO with a current or eligible Washington State license to practice medicine.
Board Certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
Minimum 5 years of clinical psychiatric experience, including leadership or administrative oversight in a hospital or behavioral health setting.
Strong understanding of quality assurance, utilization management, and regulatory compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in forensic psychiatry, public-sector hospitals, or large behavioral health systems.
Advanced training or certification in healthcare administration or public health.
Proven ability to implement system-wide quality and operational improvement initiatives.
