Job Description

The DeKalb County Health Department is seeking a full time (37.5 hours per week) Public Health Nurse. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, provides direct patient care within various public health programs.

Responsibilities

  • Works in the Family Planning program, assisting with exams, pregnancy testing, as well as testing and treating infections.
  • Provides extensive patient education related to birth control choices (including long-acting methods) and sexually transmitted infections.
  • Assists with procedures such as IUD or implant insertions or removals.
  • Provides non-judgmental care to our patients.
  • Assists with communicable disease investigations and reporting.
  • Provides nursing professional services to various programs as needed in the Community Health and Prevention Division.

Requirements

  • Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • One year experience in health care or community services setting required.
  • Previous experience in public health (especially in women's health) preferred.
  • Ability to be organized, flexible, problem solve and be part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to quickly establish and maintain positive relationships with the public and employees.
  • May require some early evening hours.

  • Day Shift
  • Monday to Friday
