Job Description
Client is seeking highly motivated, service-oriented individuals for the Public Safety Officer position. This is a fully integrated role combining responsibilities in law enforcement, fire suppression, emergency medical response, and community engagement.
Client is a premier lakeside community with a population of 10,148 and a total area of 12.32 sq miles, located along the shores of Lake St. Clair, just minutes from downtown Detroit. Position Title: Public Safety Officer (Police/Fire)
Role Description
The Public Safety Officer (PSO) is responsible for performing a wide range of duties in law enforcement, fire suppression, emergency medical services, and community engagement. Officers operate in a dynamic environment and must be able to transition between police and fire responsibilities as needed.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Enforcing local, state, and federal laws while maintaining community-oriented policing practices
- Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
- Conducting investigations, preparing reports, and testifying in court as required
- Performing fire suppression, rescue operations, and hazardous situation response
- Providing basic and/or advanced emergency medical care, depending on certification level
- Operating police, fire, and emergency equipment safely and effectively
- Participating in fire prevention activities, inspections, and public education initiatives
- Engaging with community members to build trust and promote safety awareness
- Maintaining a high level of physical readiness and professional conduct at all times
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
Minimum Requirements
- Must possess a current Police (MCOLES license) or Fire certification. Selected candidates will be sponsored to attend the corresponding academy to obtain dual certification if needed.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid State of Michigan driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
- No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal and/or unethical history
- Successful completion of interview(s), background investigation, physical, psychological, and drug screening
- High school diploma; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in law enforcement and/or fire service
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-stress, team-oriented environments
- Commitment to community-oriented public safety and ethical decision-making
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to make sound decisions quickly in emergency situations
- Strong report writing and documentation skills
- Proficiency in problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Ability to operate specialized equipment and technology
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks under varying conditions
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism
Work Environment & Expectations
- Ability to work a 12-hr shift with rotating weekends, including nights, and holidays
- Exposure to hazardous conditions, high-risk situations, and physically demanding tasks
- Required use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety protocols
