Job Description

The City of Port Townsend is recruiting to fill one vacancy for a Public Works Plans Reviewer/Inspector, who can be hired at the I, II, or III level depending on qualifications.

This position performs a variety of tasks supporting the Public Works Department in the review of community development plans, inspection of capital projects and community development, right-of-way management, code enforcement, and other technical support for construction of engineering projects and implementation of standards. Oversight and support of development resulting in quality public infrastructure is the core basis for this position.

PW Plans Reviewer/Inspector I

Pay range: $34.04-38.52 hourly base pay range ($34.04-43.14 total pay range including maximum potential longevity pay)

Required qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years' experience performing construction-related work or inspection in related fields.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer operating systems.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.

Preferred qualifications

  • College degree in construction management, engineering technology, or related field
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Experience with public works projects and/or municipal government experience

PW Plans Reviewer/Inspector II

Pay range: $37.55-42.67 hourly base pay range ($37.55-47.79 total pay range including maximum potential longevity pay)

Required qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five years' experience performing construction-related work or inspection in related fields, or combination of education and working experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer operating systems.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.

Preferred qualifications

  • College degree in construction management, engineering technology, or related field
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Experience with public works projects and/or municipal government experience

PW Plans Reviewer/Inspector III

Pay range: $39.18-44.50 base pay range ($39.18-49.84 total pay range with maximum potential longevity)

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Eight years' experience performing construction-related work or inspection in related fields, or any combination of education and experience equivalent to at least eight years of construction management and inspection experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer operating systems.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.

Preferred qualifications

  • College degree in construction management, engineering technology, or related field
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Experience with public works projects and/or municipal government experience

This position may be eligible for the additional compensation listed below. Details can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

  • Longevity pay on a graduated schedule starting at 2% after 5 years, up to 12% after 25 years
  • Overtime pay or compensatory time
  • Premium pay or compensatory time
  • Jury duty pay at regular rate during service
  • Call-back pay
