Job Description

Department: Solid WasteReports to: Accounting ManagerPay Grade/Salary Range: 105 - $38,303.03 - $61,284.85 - Annual ($18.41 - $29.46 hourly)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

A skilled clerical and technical position responsible for providing office support functions related to the Solid Waste Operations, including receiving complaints from the public and maintaining administrative control mechanisms.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following statements describe the principal functions of the job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive list of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned.

  • Receives complaints regarding illegal dumps and employee works closely with Environmental Deputy to ensure all illegal dump cases are resolved.
  • Prepares and implements managerial reports tracking hours, monies, vehicle maintenance, materials, open purchase orders, etc.
  • Reviews and corrects bi-weekly payroll time-sheets for all Solid Waste Operations Departments.

  • Receives and directs all incoming phone calls placed to the Solid Waste Departments. Answers questions when knowledgeable.
  • Performs routine clerical functions including typing, word-processing, filing, and operation of other office equipment.
  • Interacts with the Public with regards to landfill tipping fees, questions, about items that can be recycled, and various other calls related to Solid Waste.
  • Maintains a professional and safe unit and work area adhering to established safety policies and the image desired for the organization.
  • Follows consistently the Board policies and procedures.
  • Responds productively to change and performs all other related tasks as directed.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to efficiently operate office equipment, copier, computer (P.C.), adding machine, calculator, etc.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to efficiently use word processing and spreadsheet programs, and Windows Soft-ware programs.
  • Able to learn technical information related to Solid Waste disposal cells and to answer basic questions from concerned citizens.
  • Able to operate effectively in an environment of constant interruption.
  • Must have good communication skills and business correspondence.
  • Ability to use good judgement and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to maintain effectively working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers, directors, Elected Officials, vendors, and the general public.PHYSICAL SKILLS:
  • The person in this position: Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time. Must be able to frequently position self to reach files and other office items located on low shelves or the floor. Must be able to inspect and assess daily email and postal mail correspondence. Frequently communicates with the public, vendors, co-workers, managers, directors, Administration, and the Board of County Commissioners. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Frequently operates various types of office equipment to include, but not limited to a computer, and copy machine. Occasionally ascends/descends stairs. Rarely moves materials an office equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. Constantly works in an indoor environment. Rarely works in inclement outdoor weather conditions. Rarely operates motor vehicle for up to four (4) hours continuously or intermittently.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma.  Three (3) years of clerical experience, preferably in an automated and computer-interactive environment.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: 

    Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.  Must become a Notary Public within six (6) months of hire date. 

    OTHER JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS:

    Disaster Essential.
