Job Description
The City of St. Helens is seeking an experienced and motivated Public Works Supervisor to lead essential operations that keep our community running smoothly. This role oversees daily construction, maintenance, and repair activities across the City's water, sewer, street, and storm drainage systems. If you're a skilled leader with a strong background in public works and a commitment to service, we'd love to hear from you.
This role offers a starting pay of $6,934 per month up to $8,490 per month (at Step 9), along with a PPE clothing allowance and boot allowance. This is a full-time position with a standard schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including a 30-minute lunch break. Seasonal changes in the work schedule are anticipated due to certain weather conditions.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Public Works Supervisor provides hands-on leadership to utility workers and equipment operators within the Public Works Operations Division. This position combines field expertise with administrative oversight, ensuring that critical infrastructure is maintained safely, efficiently, and to City standards.
You'll plan and schedule work, guide crews, manage materials and equipment, respond to service issues, and support long-term infrastructure planning. The role reports to the Public Works Operations Manager and is classified as an exempt, non-union position.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid state driver's license and CDL.
- Water Distribution Operator II certification.
- Backflow Tester certification.
- Competent Person certification.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Management Supervisor certification.
- Cross Connection Specialist certification.
