Title: Quality Assurance Specialist
Location: Remote (Contiguous US) with travel as required for business needs
Hire Type: Contract (Expected through 2026/2027)
Shift/Hours: 40 Hours per week as needed
Base Salary: $65 – $110/hr.

About the Opportunity:Sterling Engineering’s client, a pioneer in advanced nuclear technology and innovative energy solutions, is looking for a Quality Assurance Specialist to join their organization. This is a stable company at the forefront of the carbon-free energy movement, offering a collaborative environment focused on high standards of safety and technical excellence. This role is critical for ensuring the integrity of nuclear quality programs during a period of significant growth and regulatory implementation.
Job Duties:
- Support the development and maintenance of quality assurance program processes, including writing instructions, procedures, and guidance documents.
- Participate in and lead supplier qualification surveys, implementation audits, and surveillances to ensure third-party compliance.
- Conduct internal audits and assessments to verify that program activities align with the Quality Management Plan (QMP) and Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD).
- Review high-level procedures (Level 2 and above) to ensure strict adherence to established quality and regulatory requirements.
- Provide expert guidance and support to personnel performing activities affecting quality, serving as a primary resource for nuclear QA standards.
- Mentor and check the work of others to foster a culture of sound quality approaches and continuous professional development.
- Lead or participate in causal analyses to identify and resolve program deficiencies or non-conformances in a timely manner.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with various departments to support product improvements and resolve complex technical quality challenges.
- Ensure compliance with rigorous federal regulations, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 standards.
- Manage project timelines and deadlines efficiently while adapting to frequent changes in a rapidly evolving nuclear regulatory environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field (10+ years of direct experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in the development and implementation of nuclear quality assurance programs (QA 3 and QA 4 levels).
- Proven ability to lead audits and assessments; must be able to certify as a Lead Auditor within one year of hire.
- Strong understanding of nuclear standards such as NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, and ASME BPVC Section III.
- Excellent problem-solving and independent judgment skills, with the ability to handle complex or sensitive quality situations.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor others and provide clear work direction while fostering a rigorous safety and quality culture.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop interpersonal networks and lead consensus among stakeholders.
