Quality Engineer

Location: 365 Haacke Drive, Chestertown, MD 21620

Work Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday

Salary Range: $60-$80k per year

The Dixon Group is seeking a Quality Engineer to join their Boss Division in Chestertown, MD! This is a high visibility role for a technical problem-solver who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment. You will lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA), manager inspection systems, and drive continuous improvement projects that directly impact our bottom line.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality standards for the Boss Division to ensure 100% customer satisfaction and adherence specifications.
  • Lead cross-functional investigations into internal and external non-conformances.
  • Utilize 5-Why, Fishbone, or 8D methodologies to identify the "source" of failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Manage improvement projects (Lean/Six Sigma) to reduce scrap, rework, and manufacturing variances.
  • Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Author and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and standard work documents within the
  • Quality Document Control System to ensure manufacturing consistency.
  • Conduct internal audits of work procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Communicate technical non-conformances to suppliers and internal production teams, following up to verify that process adjustments are effective.
  • Inspect and approve incoming materials, in-process production, and finished goods against engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Communicate nonconformances to affected parties and lead the initiative for corrections.
  • Issue Corrective Actions where appropriate. Manage containment efforts where needed for non-conforming products.
  • Manage all production gauges; recommending gauges for new parts and keeping existing gauges calibrated
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert, educating and training floor personnel on quality best practices, blueprint reading, and measurement techniques

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related science required. Greenbelt certification, ASQ Certified
  • 2-3 years of experience in a quality, inspection, engineering or manufacturing role.
  • Quality Engineer (CQE) or Inspector (CQI) preferred.
  • Experience with quality and measurement systems is required.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and procedures
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC): Experience using tools like Minitab or Excel to analyze process capability
  • Root Cause Analysis: Proficiency in 5-Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa), or 8D methodologies.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges and thread gauges.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, blueprints, and industry specifications such as ANSI, ASTM, API and 3A.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and communication skills
