Quality Engineer

Location: Greenville, Michigan

Reports to: Quality Manager

Employment Status: Salary Exempt

We are seeking a hands-on and technically strong Quality Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring the functional performance, safety, and reliability of products at final assembly and throughout the manufacturing process.

The Quality Engineer serves as a technical authority for product validation, failure analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position ensures that products meet engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations before leaving the factory across our premium brands, including U-Line, Marvel, and Viking.

This role bridges Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering by diagnosing defects, identifying root causes, improving processes, and preventing recurring issues-not just detecting them. It is a production-embedded engineering position requiring strong troubleshooting capability, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration.

If you are passionate about solving complex technical problems and driving measurable quality improvements, this is an opportunity to make a significant impact on product excellence and customer satisfaction.

Perks you can expect from us:

  • A competitive benefits package including 401(k) matching
  • Company provided life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance
  • Paid time off at start
  • Paid holidays
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Employee referral program.

Expected Hours of Work:

This position is full-time. The general scheduled workdays are Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts. Overtime may be required based on business needs.

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring product performance and compliance with engineering specifications and acceptance criteria at final assembly.

This role focuses on structured defect analysis, root cause investigation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing and test processes to improve first-pass yield, reduce repeat defects, and prevent warranty escapes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure finished products meet engineering specifications, safety standards, and customer requirements at final assembly
  • Lead root cause analysis of product and process defects using structured problem-solving methods (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.)
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate recurring issues and improve overall product quality
  • Monitor and improve first-pass yield (FPY), scrap, rework, and warranty performance metrics
  • Support and optimize end-of-line (EOL) testing processes to ensure accurate and repeatable product validation
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain to resolve quality issues and implement process improvements
  • Analyze quality data and trends to identify systemic issues and opportunities for improvement
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including control plans, work instructions, and inspection standards
  • Participate in new product introduction (NPI) to ensure robust quality planning and risk mitigation (PFMEA, validation plans)
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards relevant to refrigeration systems (UL, NSF, etc.)
  • Support supplier quality activities, including issue resolution, incoming inspection, and supplier corrective actions
  • Conduct audits of manufacturing processes and layered process audits (LPA) to ensure adherence to standards
  • Assist in reducing warranty claims by identifying failure modes and implementing design or process improvements
  • Provide technical support and training to production teams on quality standards and best practices
  • Act as a quality liaison between production and engineering to ensure effective communication and issue resolution
