Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer with leadership potential to help drive the next phase of growth within an aerospace manufacturing operation. This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on quality professional to make an immediate impact by improving processes, developing quality systems, and supporting a facility transition and expansion.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong aerospace manufacturing background and enjoy working closely with production teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring products meet required quality standards and specifications throughout the manufacturing process. This role requires a strong understanding of quality assurance methodologies, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance
- Lead quality improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
- Develop and implement quality control plans, inspection criteria, testing procedures, SOPs, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Monitor and evaluate production processes, identifying areas for improvement while ensuring adherence to quality standards and customer requirements.
- Conduct root cause analysis for product defects and non-conformances and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Support and maintain ISO-compliant quality systems and processes.
Inspection and Testing
- Oversee in-process and final inspections utilizing various measuring tools and techniques to assess product quality.
- Coordinate and perform audits of manufacturing processes and systems to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
- Manage inspection documentation and maintain quality-related records for traceability and analysis.
- Review engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements, specifications, and customer requirements.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement efforts utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and industry best practices.
- Analyze quality data, metrics, and performance trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to improve product quality and process efficiency.
- Support process optimization and operational excellence initiatives throughout the facility.
Training and Support
- Provide training and support to production personnel on quality standards, inspection techniques, and best practices.
- Assist in the development of training materials, quality manuals, and quality procedures.
- Act as a liaison between Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing departments to promote a culture of quality throughout the organization.
- Mentor and provide guidance to the quality inspection team.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare and present quality reports and metrics to management, highlighting key performance indicators and areas for improvement.
- Ensure all quality documentation is maintained accurately and in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Support customer audits, internal audits, certifications, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Assist in the preparation of documentation for customer audits and certifications.
Qualifications
Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, or a related technical field preferred.
- 5+ years of Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Manufacturing Quality experience.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Sheet metal manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of quality standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar.
- Experience developing SOPs, work instructions, and quality procedures.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with quality inspection tools and methodologies including:
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
- Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Familiarity with CAD software and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and process optimization techniques.
