The QHSE Specialist ensures the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards are maintained across all operations. This role provides strategic direction, develops and implements HSE policies and procedures, monitors safety performance, and supports a proactive safety culture. This role serves as the primary catalyst assisting the operations teams in embracing Quality and Safety into their daily operational activities. Thew QHSE Specialist assures customer satisfaction, worker safety and industry standards by managing quality and safety policies, standards, procedures, reporting, programs and practices while driving continuous improvement within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Quality and HSE methodologies into all repair processes, and measure and monitor the effectiveness of controls based on critical industry and client requirements and Blackstone's Quality and Safety Management Systems.

  • Validate Quality and Safety processes by establishing control specifications, measuring production, documenting evidence, determining operational performance qualification, and developing and updating assurance procedures.

  • Monitor the Ops/Eng led ITP activities specified within the company and client process to ensure quality conformance of products and services.

  • Effectively interacts with Production, Sales, and Engineering teams to ensure customer satisfaction and QHSE compliance.

  • Works with suppliers, customers and staff to ensure compliance to QHSE requirements.

  • Manages and maintains quality inspection and product release programs for incoming and in-process materials, components, processes, and finished goods and services.

  • Maintains and improves product quality by completing product, service, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints.

  • Collaborates with other members of management during product/system development activities.

  • Facilitates analysis and coordinates activities related to process/system improvement projects.

  • Maintains operational data and prepares QHSE reports for management.

  • Provide/Facilitate training to staff via internal or external sources.

  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators related to production, budgeting and safety activities.

  • Perform vendor qualification audits and assist with supply chain development.

  • Facilitate safety meetings, present stats, KPIs and overall safety initiatives for the company to the teams.

  • Develop QHSE site specific plans for proposals.

  • Administration of safety registries and platforms to maintain customer and regulatory requirements. (DISA, ISN, Avetta, Veriforce, NCMS, Various Safety Councils)

  • Attend occasionally, offsite vendor and client site visits/audits.

  • Maintain a functioning understanding of basic equipment service and repairs. (be curious)

  • Support field & shop operations by:

  • Training sessions

  • Conducting field performance audits

  • FLHRA's, JSA's, V.O.I.C.E cards, Incident Reporting, Hazard ID's

  • Responds to & participates in the investigation of safety incidents with management.

  • Develops an effective communication process to make safety priorities and performance visible

  • Provides technical support for ongoing problem-solving and safety investigations.

  • Provides resources and support to the site's joint health and safety committee. (were applicable)

  • Provides on-the-floor safety coaching and recognition.

  • Works with WC Insurance on return-to-work strategies and claims management.

  • Monitor changes to legislation which may impact the QHSE Program.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information and always maintain utmost confidentiality with tact, diplomacy and integrity.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Safety Professional Roles.
  • Auditor Roles.
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related area of study (ex. Materials, Mechanical Engineering)
  • 5+ years of direct relatable QHSE supervision.
  • Experience with WC Insurance and OSHA filing and compliance.
  • Experience with leading analysis to identify gaps/trends and variances.
  • Experience with supporting the development and execution of QHSE training programs.
  • Conducting shop, office and field QHSE audits.
