  • Research, analyze, and resolve advanced tax issues; document conclusions in clear, defensible technical memoranda suitable for IRS and state review.
  • Prepare and review audit-ready deliverables including technical reports, memoranda, proposals, and client-facing communications supporting federal and state credit positions.
  • Translate technical findings into practical recommendations and actionable outcomes for tax, finance, and operational leadership.

Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Deliver engaging presentations and clearly communicate project findings to client leadership.
  • Identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities across service lines, including other specialty tax solutions and incentives.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposals, prospect meetings, and practice development initiatives.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical training to associates and senior associates working on R&D and incentives engagements.
  • Review work and ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to firm standards and documentation requirements.
  • Delegate effectively while supporting team members’ professional growth and maintaining project timelines and budgets.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, learning-focused team environment.

Practice Growth & Innovation

  • Support the continued growth of the Specialty Tax Services practice, particularly in the areas of federal and state R&D credits and incentives.
  • Stay current on evolving federal and state tax legislation, administrative guidance, and industry trends affecting R&D credits, incentives, and Section 174.
  • Identify process improvements and opportunities to enhance service delivery, project execution, and substantiation quality.

Qualifications

Required

  • 4+ years of specialized experience in federal and state R&D tax credits and incentives, including Section 174 and related specialty tax consulting matters.
  • Active CPA and/or bar license required.
  • Strong technical tax research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience reviewing work, managing projects, and mentoring junior team members.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, engineering, or a related technical or quantitative field.
  • Experience in public accounting, tax consulting, or law firm environments focused on specialty tax, credits and incentives, or multi-state tax matters.
  • Experience leading projects or supervising junior team members.

Key Competencies

  • Client-focused mindset with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Self-starter with strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Leadership mindset with a passion for coaching and mentoring others.
  • Collaborative and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
