Job Description

The Iowa Clinic has an exciting opportunity to be a part of a team at our new musculoskeletal-focused ambulatory surgery center. Conveniently located near I-80 in Waukee, this state-of-the-art, 21,000 sq. ft. ASC will offer same-day joint replacement, orthopedic, sports medicine, foot and ankle, pain management surgery and a cardiac catheterization lab in an out-patient setting. A Day in the Life of ASC Radiology Technologist

This role will be responsible for performing radiological procedures under the direction of a physician, at a technical level. The radiologist tech will function as a scrub assistant and monitor technician during cardiac catheterization procedures. They will be responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply ionizing radiation for radiology diagnosis. Also performs a variety of diagnostic and interventional examinations.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively operate cath lab imaging and radiology equipment
  • Evaluates images in real time to ensure diagnostic accuracy and adequate visualization for interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Performs routine and advanced equipment testing, monitoring all systems for proper function, and promptly reporting or addressing any irregularities.
  • Accurately interprets and executes verbal orders, physician instructions, and procedural direction in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Maintains all cath lab instruments, supplies, and equipment according to established cleaning, sterilization, storage, and calibration protocols.
  • Applies strict sterile technique and infection‑prevention practices to prevent contamination and maintain a safe surgical and procedural environment.
  • Produces high‑quality diagnostic radiographic and fluoroscopic images within scope of practice, using proper technique, positioning, and immobilization methods.
  • Operates imaging equipment according to department protocols, adjusting technical factors to optimize image clarity and patient safety.
  • Assists physicians with catheter placement, contrast administration, and other interventional tasks while ensuring sterile field integrity.
  • Provides appropriate patient positioning, comfort measures, and immobilization devices before and during procedures.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of exposure charts and imaging protocols for cath lab equipment, performing required daily quality control checks.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of all equipment tests and quality assurance activities in accordance with State of Iowa regulatory requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT Registered/Eligible. Current State of Iowa permit to practice radiology.
  • Mandatory reporter and BLS required within 30 days of hire.
  • 1-2 years applicable clinical experience in medical imaging systems environment.
  • Cath lab and or operating room experience preferred.
