Hiring Salary Range: $114,900 - $172,400

Compensation is determined by a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, and certifications. The actual offer may vary, reflecting the candidate's unique blend of experience, educational background, and skill level.

PURPOSE:

Maintains the LACBWR ISFSI Radiation Protection Program and the LACBWR ISFSI Emergency Plan in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 20 and 10 CFR 50 respectively.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Maintain the Radiation Protection Program and implementing procedures.

Perform routine radiation monitoring and instrument operability checks.

Oversee the contracted radiation protection services provider for instrument calibration, environmental dosimetry, and personnel dosimetry.

Perform routine environmental and personnel dosimetry exchange.

Develop the annual environmental monitoring report and worker dose report as required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Perform regulatory reviews of all changes to Plans and Programs to ensure no reduction of regulatory effectiveness or commitment.

Develop and conduct annual emergency plan drills and exercises.

Provide training for the personnel responsible for radiation surveys.

Oversee ALARA controls and radiation protection.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • Four-year academic degree in engineering/science field or equivalent as provided for below.

  • Minimum of five years’ professional experience in the area of radiological safety, three years of which shall be in applied radiation work in a nuclear facility.

  • Technical experience in the area of radiological safety beyond the five-year minimum may be substituted on a one-for-one basis towards the academic degree requirement (four years of technical experience being equivalent to a four-year academic degree)

  • Academic and technical experience must total a minimum of nine years

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of federal regulatory requirements regarding radiation protection

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels

  • Proficient computer skills

  • Ability to gain and maintain unescorted access at nuclear sites and meet NRC security and    DPC security requirements

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately

  • Must be able to work productively with other staff, at all levels, in a team environment

  • Excellent attention to detail
