Job Description

Radiologic Technologists are responsible for maintaining and using diagnostic imaging equipment and supplies as necessary to demonstrate portions of the human body for diagnostic and treatment purposes.

RESPONSIBILITY: Medical imaging, direct patient care Responsibility Statement: Determine patients' x-ray and/or Computed Tomography (CT) needs by reading requests or instructions from physicians, per Radiology protocols

Specific Performance Standards:

· 1.1 Position x-ray equipment and adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance.

· 1.2 Position CT equipment and adjust controls to provide image quality and limit radiation exposure.

· 1.3 Position patient on examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician.

· 1.4 Process radiographs using computed or digital radiography methods.

· 1.5 Performs EKG's on patients and transmits studies for interpretation.

· 1.6 Prepare and set up exam rooms for patient.

Compliance Standards Responsibility Statement: Must maintain proper function of radiology equipment and follow safety precautions when performing task and using radiology equipment.

Specific Performance Standards:

· 2.1 Make exposures necessary for the requested procedures, rejecting and repeating work that does not meet established standards.

· 2.2 Maintains, cleans, and uses the equipment properly and performs periodic maintenance.

· 2.3 Use beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff.

RESPONSIBILITY: Communication Responsibility Statement: Using best practices, Radiologic Technologists ensure quality results through accurate and concise communication.

Specific Performance Standards:

· 3.1 Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.

· 3.2 Determine patients' x-ray needs by reading requests or instructions from physicians, per Radiology protocols.

Specific Performance Standards

· 4.1 Uses appropriate critical thinking and judgment during their work.

· 4.2 Participate in leadership development process as defined by administration.

· 4.3 Uses appropriate critical thinking and judgment in provision of care. Performs all aspects of treatment based upon national, departmental and evidence- based standards.

· 4.4 Must be able to demonstrate a professional attitude, in all situations; the ability to see the patient as a unique individual, rather than a task to complete.

EXPERIENCE:

· An Associates or Bachelor's degree in Radiography or Radiologic Sciences is preferred.

· One year of CT experience is preferred.

· Post-primary certification in Computed Tomography (CT) is preferred.

· Must have certification and registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or be able to work towards obtaining certification.

· Certified and up to date in Basic Life Support

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Must be available to work on call, when needed, to ensure 24 hour coverage of department.

· Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays, to ensure 24 hour coverage of department.

· Confidentiality must be maintained in working with medical and patient information.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Physical Demands, Strength rating:

o Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Prolonged periods of standing or walking are required.

· Finger Dexterity and Repetitive Motion:

o Typing/keying comprises a significant amount of work function for this position -- substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers.

o Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers.

· Vision and Hearing: Corrected vision and hearing within normal range to observe and communicate with patients and professional staff.
