Job Description:

The Property Tax practice is seeking a Property Tax Manager to provide real estate property tax consulting, assessment reduction, and appeal services for a multi-state portfolio. This role is responsible for managing client relationships, overseeing complex engagements, developing valuation-based tax savings strategies, directing hearing preparation and protest activity, and coaching staff in a highly interactive team environment. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of real estate valuation and the property tax protest process with sound project management, communication, and business advisory skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coordinate, and oversee real estate property tax consulting, assessment review, appeal/protest, and assessment reduction services.

  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, including priorities, timelines, deliverables, and day-to-day communication.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by identifying tax savings opportunities and delivering practical, valuation-based recommendations.

  • Review property tax assessments, tax bills, assessment notices, and prior-year protest results to determine appeal opportunities and improve outcomes.

  • Develop and implement protest strategies tailored to local jurisdiction requirements and ensure compliance with filing, hearing, and appeal deadlines.

  • Direct the preparation and review of hearing packages, market support, valuation analyses, property documentation, and other evidence used in the protest process.

  • Oversee responses to notices, information requests, and other communications from taxing authorities and county appraisal districts.

  • Research complex real estate and property tax matters and stay current on changes in applicable laws, regulations, and local procedures.

  • Use PTMS, internal databases, Excel, and third-party tools to track notices, analyze values, monitor appeals, and support reporting.

  • Document and review property acquisitions, construction costs, and other real estate data that may affect assessments or appeal strategy.

  • Manage, mentor, and develop staff, while promoting accountability, collaboration, and high-quality client service.

  • Identify opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships and support special projects, process improvement, and cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college or university; degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, or a related field preferred.

  • CPA, JD, CMI, or other relevant professional certifications strongly preferred; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.

  • 5+ years of real estate property tax, property tax consulting, or related experience; public accounting or consulting experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of real estate valuation methodologies, tax bills, assessment notices, protest hearings, and multi-state property tax processes.

  • Experience working with local taxing authorities, county appraisal districts, and jurisdiction-specific appeal requirements.

  • Proven ability to manage client relationships, multiple projects, and competing deadlines with strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, research, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, along with experience using tax technology, PTMS, or other workflow/reporting tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach staff, review work product, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

We expect the candidate to uphold Crowe’s values of Care, Trust, Courage, and Stewardship. These values define who we are. We expect all of our people to act ethically and with integrity at all times.
