What You'll Do:
Starting pay for this position is $20.89 per hour.
The Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor at Piedmont Environmental Center designs and teaches outdoor environmental education programming at the Piedmont Environmental Center (PEC). Environmental education programming is primarily geared towards pre-school through high school students but occasionally extends to students from nearby colleges and universities. Programming topics include, but are not limited to: ecology, natural history, weather and soils, geology, energy concepts, and the biology of plants and animals of the Piedmont region. This position requires a good understanding of scientific methods and processes and is a blend of environmental education, natural/cultural history interpretation, and outdoor education.
The Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor at Piedmont Environmental Center also assists with public programming, special events, and maintaining multiple teaching exhibits; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Parks Supervisor; however, employee must be able to lead programs and/or groups independently. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include nights and weekends.
Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Leads in designing outdoor environmental education classes for students from various age groups;
- Leads in teaching environmental education classes and programs in various weather conditions;
- Leads nature camp development and implementation throughout the year;
- Leads in researching, designing, and delivering public programs, classes, workshops, and special events in an outdoor setting;
- Delivers environmental education programming independently, as needed;
- Assists in general litter cleanup and trash removal on facility grounds;
- Performs general maintenance on two outdoor teaching exhibits and a small living reptile exhibit;
- Leads in maintaining and organizing teaching materials and equipment;
- Attends environmental workshops and conferences, pursuing continued education on a professional level;
- Stays current on research pertaining to ecology, environmental issues, and natural history topics;
- Works with regional public school systems, private schools, and homeschools in promoting PEC's classes and educational offerings;
- Assists with general maintenance of approximately 11 miles of trials onsite;
- Does related work as required;
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies;
Qualifications:
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Ecology, Zoology, or related field
- Comfortable in a customer service role
- Comfortable working in an outdoor setting
The work location of this job will be 1220 Penny Rd High Point, North Carolina.
