Your Role: The Recreational Therapist is responsible for helping persons served improve their functional abilities, independence, and quality of life through therapeutic recreation interventions tailored to their physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and leisure needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts assessments to identify person served strengths, limitations, interests, and therapeutic recreation needs in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of their condition and functioning.
  • Develops individualized treatment plans that outline goals, interventions, and expected outcomes based on assessed needs and physician orders when applicable.
  • Implements therapeutic recreation interventions designed to improve physical, cognitive, emotional, social, behavioral, and leisure functioning.
  • Uses purposeful activities and therapeutic modalities to promote independence, safety, motivation, community integration, and overall quality of life.
  • Continuously assesses and documents person served progress, modifying treatment plans and interventions as necessary to support optimal outcomes.
  • Educates persons served, families, and staff on therapeutic activities, adaptive strategies, and recommendations that support carryover outside of formal treatment sessions.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, social workers, and interdisciplinary team members to support coordinated care and continuity of services.
  • Attends person served team meetings, care conferences, and other interdisciplinary meetings as needed.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records in compliance with company policy and applicable state, federal, and CARF standards.
  • Ensures therapeutic equipment and materials are used appropriately and safely.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a related field from an accredited program required.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential in good standing required. Must be eligible to practice in Michigan upon hire.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Valid driver's license and current auto insurance required.
  • Two years of experience conducting recreational therapy treatment programs preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with traumatic brain injury, acquired brain injury, developmental disabilities, or behavioral health needs preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize independently.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer proficiency.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility in scheduling and respond to changing client and operational needs.
  • Empathy and a genuine desire to help persons served improve their quality of life.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist clients with mobility and care needs.
  • Ability to travel between multiple locations as required
