Job Description
The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for supporting industrial maintenance operations through corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance. This role focuses on installing, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial refrigeration and utility systems, including ammonia refrigeration, HVAC, boilers, steam, water, gas, and compressed air systems.
Key responsibilities include monitoring system performance, adjusting controls to maintain proper pressure and temperature, and diagnosing equipment issues using root cause analysis to implement long-term solutions. The technician also maintains and services boiler and cooling systems, including condensate return, feed water, economizers, and chemical treatment systems.
A strong understanding of ammonia properties and safe handling procedures is essential. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards and regulatory compliance, including Process Safety Management (PSM), Lockout/Tagout procedures, and food safety programs such as USDA, HACCP, GMP, and SQF.
Additionally, the technician tracks performance metrics (KPIs) to support continuous improvement and ensures all maintenance activities align with company safety and quality standards.
Requirements
Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school in mechanical and/or electrical field preferred or equivalent related experience. RETA certificate strongly preferred.

Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook, etc. Word Processing software and Process Safety Management (PSM) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) Database software.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to internal and external customers.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
