The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Senior and Long Term Care, Community Services Bureau.

The Regional Program Officer is responsible for ensuring that Montanans with disabilities and the elderly are receiving appropriate quality Medicaid long-term care services. Responsibilities include: administering bureau programs in a particular region of the state, serving as liaison between the central bureau and division staff and stakeholders; ensuring services meet minimum quality standards established by the department; identifying, providing, and coordinating ongoing training needs to provide correct understanding and ensure correct service delivery based on system changes/updates, organization changes, quality assurance reviews and demonstrated user needs; and receiving requests for policy clarification, analyzing and researching problems, and coordinating with other program officers as needed to respond to policy questions.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, long term care or programs and services for disabled or elderly persons.

Knowledge of and skill in training methods and techniques.

Ability to interpret policies, rules and regulations.

Skill in problem identification and resolution.

Meet minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in behavioral science, human services, social work, nursing, family science, human development and counseling, education, public health or closely related field.

Requires two years of experience in community social or health-related fields with demonstrated knowledge of community resources, long term care or programs and services for disabled or elderly persons.

Experience working with disabled or elderly individuals is desired.

An alternative to the above education experience could include an associate degree in nursing and at least four years of experience working with disabled or elderly individuals in community social or health related fields with demonstrated knowledge of community resources or long care.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Additional Information

This position is a mandatory reporter of suspect abuse, neglect, or exploitation of individuals over the of 60 and those with disabilities over the age of 18.

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.

The primary location for this position is open for consideration contingent on available workspace. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state and DPHHS policies.
