Summary:

Dental Clinic- 4 yrs RDA exp required- Full-time (40 hours/wk), 4 days a week, variable days- 7:30a-6p (hours could start earlier, if scheduled for OR)

Additional Information:

Registered Dental Assistant III assists the dentist in the more complex treatment and care of dental patients and assists in educating patients in oral hygiene. Performs a variety of Intermediate level patient care, laboratory duties, and works chairside as dentists examine and treat patients. Serves as the contact person for multi-specialties, coordinating across multiple clinics. Works with management on quality performance and improvements. Problem-solves patient and equipment issues.

Required Education:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Recommended Education:

Associate's degree or technical certificate in a related field of study.

Required Work Experience:

Related Field- 4 years of experience

Recommended Work Experience:

Clinics- Related_1 year Pediatric experience

Required Certifications:

Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) - Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners

Recommended Certifications:

Certified Orthodontic Assistant (COA) - Dental Assistant National Board, Inc, Certified Preventive Functions Dental Assistant (CPFDA) - Dental Assistant National Board, Inc

Description

  1. Makes patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepares them for treatment, and obtains their dental records.

  2. Assistants hands instruments and materials to orthodontists and keeps patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices.

  3. Assists Dentist in the operating room as directed.

  4. Disinfects instruments and equipment, prepares trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instructs patients on postoperative and general oral health care.

  5. Prepares materials for impressions and restorations, takes dental x-rays, and processes x-ray film as directed by a dentist.

  6. Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

  7. Handles instrument cleaning, sterilization/disinfection and re-circulation. Performs dental room/chair disinfection.

  8. Reviews consent and medical history prior to treatment.

  9. Reviews and maintains dental records documenting assessments and care provided. Performs audits as assigned.

  10. Assists in patient/family education through written and oral explanation. Performs oral hygiene within scope of practice.

  11. Cross trained to 3 other specialties within the department.

  12. Knowledgeable of all policies. Excellent reference/go to for all.

  13. Trains new employees and external students.

  14. Performs lab work.

  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
