Job Summary
The Registered Dietitian (RD) is responsible for Medical Nutrition Therapy services provided to referred Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC) un'ina. The RD is responsible for nutrition consultations provided for Tribal programs. The RD will facilitate close collaboration between health promotion and disease prevention wellness programing.
Essential Functions
- Apply the principles, practices, and standards of care per State of Alaska Registered Dietitian licensing for nutrition management, health promotion, and disease prevention
- Attend all national, regional, and local grantee trainings as required; participate and provide input into the conceptualization, design and monitoring projects
- Provide medical nutrition therapy, counseling and care plans for patients.
- Collaborate with providers and integrated care teams to identify nutritional needs for patients and participate in group visits for patients, families and staff incorporating the principles of nutrition and lifestyle modification.
- Collaborate with the Kenaitze Early Childhood Center to provide nutritional assessments annually and provide ongoing nutritional counseling for families
- Collaborate with the Tyotkas Elders Center to provide nutritional guideline for lunch menus and provide ongoing educational outreach for Elders and families
- Participate in accreditation and quality assurance and project improvement activities.
- Develop procedures, training and resources for staff to ensure safe food handling during fieldtrip and outreach events, and facilitate or delegate training as appropriate
- Participate in traditional seasonal activities including harvesting, preparation and presentation of traditional foods

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree with course work approved by American Dietetic Association's (ADA) Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education
- Completed an accredited, supervised practice program at a healthcare facility, community agency or foodservice corporation
Experience
- Three (3) years of experience as a Registered Dietitian
License/Certification
- Licensed Dietitian (LD) by the State of Alaska
- Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Certified Food Protection Manager, or obtained within six (6) months of hire
- CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within three months of hire
- Valid Alaska State Driver license and must remain insurable under Tribe's policy

- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to organize, establish priorities, follow-up on all details, and met deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal communication, public speaking, and presentation skills
- Proficiency and skill in Microsoft Office
- Conducts business in a service-orientated manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful, and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, coworkers and others
Preferred
- Grant project coordination, budgeting and reporting experience
- Knowledge and experience with cultural diversities
This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must becomplied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
