Registered Nurse – Nursing Home Surveyor / Complaint Investigator – Albany, NY
Location: Albany, NY (travel position with on-site visits)Employment Type: Full-timePay: $50/hour (premium pay for holidays and overtime)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to conduct nursing home surveys and complaint investigations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. This role involves travel to facilities, investigative work, and documentation to protect resident health and safety in long-term care settings. It's ideal for a detail-oriented RN with a strong background in medical review, surveillance, or clinical administration.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • NYS Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) (required).
  • Ability to obtain Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) certification within 12 months of employment (required).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in utilization review, claims adjudication, medical review, fraud investigation, surveillance, or monitoring; OR 3 years of clinical or administrative experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate positive outcomes in adverse or controversial situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, able to relate effectively to providers, physicians, senior medical and administrative personnel, and residents/patients.
  • Superior investigative and analytical skills, with proficiency conducting interviews with facility staff, residents, and families.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and within a team.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new programs.
  • Ability to travel to on-site locations.
Additional Requirements
  • Flexibility with scheduling, as the state determines the work schedule.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and evening shifts on a rotating basis, as needed.
  • This is a travel position.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in surveys or complaint investigations, including allegations of abuse and neglect, and perform surveillance activities at nursing homes to determine compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Produce written documentation and draft Statements of Deficiencies (SOD) within required time frames, using Principles of Documentation.
  • Assess compliance with the Plan of Correction within the required time frame.
  • Complete data entry in federal and state reporting databases as required.
  • Participate in state monitoring during Immediate Jeopardy situations.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Testify in administrative hearings as needed.
  • Adhere to DOH work schedules, policies, and procedures.
  • Travel to on-site locations according to the work schedule.
