Required Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room nursing experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of AAAASF, AORN, ASPSN, ASPAN, and OSHA standards.
- Experience in ambulatory surgery settings preferred.
- Familiarity with cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures preferred.
- Experience with quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and practice management systems.
Patient Care – Pre-Operative
- Review surgeon’s preference cards and prepare required supplies and equipment.
- Assist scrub nurses with gathering instruments and materials.
- Set up operating room equipment, including beds, warming devices, compression devices, liposuction machines, suction, cautery, and power cords; test all equipment.
- Review patient charts for informed consent, orders, and medical clearance.
- Perform patient, procedure, and site verification with OR staff.
- Confirm completion and accuracy of surgical documentation.
- Prepare and draw up medications and tumescent solutions as .
- Receive and review handoff reports from admitting staff.
- Assist patients onto the operating table and apply safety restraints.
- Support anesthesia induction and intraoperative monitoring.
- Insert urinary catheter when indicated.
- Assist with proper patient positioning and preparation.
- Scrub and prep patients when needed.
- Connect suction, cautery, and liposuction equipment.
- Perform surgical counts with scrub staff.
- Anticipate and respond to the needs of the surgical team.
- Maintain accurate operative records and time documentation.
- Label, package, and document patient specimens according to protocol.
- Prepare dressings, garments, and postoperative supplies.
- Complete final surgical counts.
- Assist with patient transfer to recovery and provide clinical handoff.
- Ensure completion of all OR documentation.
- Log and document specimens in designated systems and logbooks.
- Clean and reset operating rooms in accordance with infection control standards.
- Review upcoming schedules and prepare supplies for future cases.
- Ensure OR suites remain fully stocked and operational.
- Utilize facility resources responsibly.
- Minimize waste and identify cost-effective improvement opportunities.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
- Maintain positive, respectful working relationships.
- Support interdisciplinary teamwork and workflow efficiency.
- Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives.
- Support workflow optimization and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Maintain proficiency in clinical and practice management software.
- Follow all organizational policies related to safety and infection control.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or practices.
- Promote patient engagement and education.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Complete all required annual education and training.
- Maintain current knowledge of facility policies and standards of care.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new staff.
- Uphold the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Maintain membership in relevant professional organizations.
- Access and manage protected health information (PHI) in compliance with privacy and security regulations.
- Review medical, clinical, and reimbursement records as for patient care.
- Perform duties requiring standing, walking, lifting, and manual dexterity.
- Lift and carry items up to 30 pounds as needed.
- Work under stressful conditions and variable schedules.
- Maintain visual and auditory acuity for clinical tasks.
- Tolerate regular exposure to bodily fluids and clinical hazards.
- Work in environments with exposure to communicable diseases, radiation, and medical substances.
Education/Credentials Requirements:
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license & Registration (required).
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (required).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification American Heart Association(preferred).
- Formal or on-the-job training in plastic surgery nursing (preferred).
Location: 999 Franklin Avenue, Garden City NY 11530 (on-site)
Compensation: $50.00-$53.00
