Job Description

RN / Cath Lab

Duration: 13 weeks 

Shift:7:30A-4P

Certifications: RN IN license, ACLS, BLS

Candidates must be located at least 50 miles from facility

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. The RN will assist the cardiology team in a sterile environment, monitoring the patient’s status, and providing care and education before, during, and after the procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Assessment & Preparation:

    • Conduct pre-procedure assessments, including reviewing patient history, allergies, and current medications.

    • Prepare the patient for catheterization, ensuring they are well-informed about the procedure.

    • Ensure all necessary equipment and medications are ready before the procedure.

    • Administer pre-procedure medications (e.g., sedation, pain management) as ordered by the physician.

    • Verify patient identity and procedure in accordance with safety protocols.

  2. Assisting During the Procedure:

    • Monitor the patient’s vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen levels) continuously throughout the procedure.

    • Assist the cardiologist or interventional radiologist with catheter placement, imaging, and any interventions needed (e.g., stent placement, balloon angioplasty).

    • Maintain a sterile field during procedures to prevent infection.

    • Respond to emergencies or complications during the procedure (e.g., arrhythmias, allergic reactions).

  3. Post-Procedure Care:

    • Monitor the patient closely for signs of complications (e.g., bleeding, arrhythmias, chest pain) after the procedure.

    • Provide post-procedure instructions and educate the patient on self-care, medications, and follow-up appointments.

    • Ensure that the patient’s recovery is progressing smoothly and that vital signs remain stable.

    • Administer prescribed medications as needed, including pain management, anticoagulants, and sedatives.

    • Document all aspects of patient care, including vital signs, medications, and any complications.

  4. Patient Education and Support:

    • Provide information and education to patients and their families regarding cardiac health, lifestyle changes, and recovery after the procedure.

    • Address patient concerns and ensure they understand post-procedure instructions and follow-up care.

  5. Collaboration with the Healthcare Team:

    • Communicate effectively with cardiologists, radiologists, and other team members regarding the patient’s status and care plan.

    • Participate in team meetings and case reviews to improve patient care and outcomes.

  6. Safety & Compliance:

    • Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and infection control guidelines.

    • Ensure that all patient care procedures are documented accurately and in a timely manner.

    • Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current on cardiology practices and technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (RN).

    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.

  • Certifications:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

    • Certification in Cardiac Vascular Nursing (RN-BC) preferred, but not required.

  • Experience:

    • Experience in a Cath Lab, ICU, or cardiac care setting is preferred.

    • Familiarity with cardiac diagnostic equipment and sterile techniques is desirable.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong clinical knowledge of cardiac procedures and patient care.

    • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to emergency situations.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.

    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
