Job Description
Job Summary:
Reports to the Team Leader. This position requires the individual to be advanced in critical care, ECMO, and general floor care in an environment of continuous quality improvement. The RRT/ ECMO Specialist has to be trained to manage the equipment necessary for providing ECMO support. It is the responsibility of the RRT/ ECMO Specialist to ensure appropriate patient care through the continuous monitoring of the patient and all related equipment while working in this capacity. Through this monitoring, the RRT/ECMO Specialist is expected to identify and make corrections to the related equipment to maintain the ECMO Attending Physicians' orders.

Required:
Associate of Science in Respiratory Care
Preferred:
Bachelors' degree in Respiratory Care or related field
Experience:
Required:
Five (5) years of critical care experience as a registered therapist
Preferred:
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care
Current license to practice in the state of Tennessee
BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.
Current ACLS
Successful completion of a formal training program sponsored by ELSO (Extra Corporeal Life Support Organization) or the Erlanger Health System
High level of initiative, self-direction and accountability for actions required
Ability to maintain composure and function effectively in stressful situations
Department Position Summary:
This individual must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department's guidelines. Capable of working in a high stress environment. Have knowledge of organization functions, policies and regulation, current trends and new developments in healthcare. Understand principles and practices of respiratory therapy and bronchopulmonary physiology to assist physicians with therapeutic procedures. Computer skills, analytical, decision making and communication skills. Maintain staffing margins within workload and budgetary constraints. Organize and facilitate orientation for new hires.
