Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of the Victim Advocacy and Services Unit (VASU) and the Oklahoma Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board (DVFRB) Program Manager (PM), the DVFRB Research and Training (R&T) Coordinator will be required to successfully implement the goals and objectives outlined in a two-year Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) grant program. This position will not extend beyond the term of its grant funding.

The R&T Coordinator will perform a range of duties including but not limited to developing a homicide database, collecting data using government and open-source resources, conducting technical and statistical research, and developing and deploying continuing education trainings for employees of the criminal justice system such as law enforcement peace officers, prosecutors, child welfare workers, victim advocates, and personnel from domestic violence and sexual assault (DV/SA) programs, adult human sex trafficking programs, and batterer's intervention programs. Trainings will focus on DV threat assessment best-practices and lessons drawn from previous domestic violence homicides identified by the DVFRB. This position will work directly with Oklahoma Attorney General (OAG) staff assigned to the OAG-based DVFRB.

Note: This position is funded through a 2-year Byrne SCIP grant and will not be extended beyond the grant period.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and developing a customizable database solution to securely store confidential homicide data identified by the DVFRB.
  • Performing research and statistical analysis on criminal, social, and economic trends; applying basic and advanced methods of research and statistics.
  • Planning, coordinating, receiving, and compiling complex statistical data; compiling and editing data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparing questionnaires or other forms for data gathering and reporting, applying statistical procedures and tabulations in analysis of data collected.
  • Designing analytic and assessment tools which incorporate suitable statistical tests.
  • Preparing and arranging statistical tables and charts for compilation into manuals, handbooks and reports.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data, using statistical research programs or other methods.
  • Creating data-driven training presentations and other deliverables based on DV crime and homicide statistics.
  • Planning, organizing, and presenting local and regional training sessions for law enforcement and domestic violence service providers on issues of domestic violence, lethality assessment, and LAP implementation. This may include presentations at local professional conferences.
  • Maintaining training and other records related to the Byrne SCIP grant in compliance with established goals and objectives.
  • Requesting accreditation for continuing education credits; maintaining and submitting training attendance records to appropriate accrediting agencies.
  • Preparing reports related to the Byrne SCIP grant and collection of statistical information mandated by
  • the grant to validate compliance with established goals and objectives by required deadlines.
  • Attending meetings and training related to lethality assessment, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, human sex trafficking, and other types of crime victimization.
  • Assisting with domestic violence-related research tasks assigned by the Director of VASU and the DVFRB PM.
  • Some travel will be required with the possibility of overnight stays.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of experience for each year of the required degree. Applicants must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Preference may be given to candidates who have experience in statistical research and software.

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel computer programs is necessary. Proven professional or academic track-records using one or more statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, Tableau, or Microsoft Power BI is required. Prior experience in training development and presentation is also strongly desired.

A valid driver's license is required. All applicants must agree in writing to complete, and satisfactorily pass, a background investigation.
