Department (OC) Office of Science Job Description: Responsibilities Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist III to work within the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), Office of Science and Technology in the Health, Wealth & Wellbeing Unit. The incumbent will lead the planning, development, and implementation of the research and applied epidemiology analysis activities examining relationships among socioeconomic conditions, population health outcomes, and overall wellbeing, assessment, and evaluation activities that demonstrate how increased wealth improves health outcomes and general wellbeing. This position focuses on assessing community-based economic and public health initiatives and analyzing their association with population health indicators and related outcomes. This position focuses on examining and assessing community wealth building initiatives and their impact on social determinants of health, and health disparities. Specific duties will include developing comprehensive evaluation and analysis plans, including methodologies and algorithms for measuring health, economic, demographic, and community-level indicators; assessing the impact of unit programming on community health and economic indicators such as wealth; identifying, obtaining, and managing datasets; developing surveys for data collection; building and validating relevant measures; producing reports, publications, and presentations summarizing findings; collaborating with NYSDOH partners to support analytical projects; and providing technical guidance to staff. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, a related social science, or a closely related field and four years of research experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field and three years of research experience; OR a Doctorate degree in a related field and one year of research experience. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Public Health or a related field and three years of experience in public health research, surveillance, or evaluation OR a doctoral degree in Public Health or a related field and one year of experience in public health research, surveillance, or evaluation. Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, statistical methodology, interpretation, and dissemination of data for varied audiences. Demonstrated proficiency utilizing advanced data analysis techniques to examine non-health related data such as net worth, income, employment, housing, and education metrics to assess their relationship with wealth and health outcomes. Strong data analysis, data management, data visualization and evaluation experience, particularly with economic and large health-related datasets. Professional and/or academic knowledge of public health concepts, including social determinants of health, health disparities, and health equity, as they relate to population health outcomes and wellbeing Experience supervising staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated intermediate or advanced proficiency using SAS including proficient use of SAS BASE, SQL, GRAPH, STAT, ODS, MACRO, ArcGIS, Tableau. Demonstrated experience with survey design and implementation. Demonstrated experience in creating infographics and graphical presentations of data. Conditions of Employment Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Travel up to 25% of the time will be required. The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with a combination of onsite and remote work. This position may require occasional work on weekends, after-hours, and holidays. Work Location Expectations At HRI, the nature of hybrid and onsite work varies by position. Some roles require full onsite presence, while others allow a hybrid schedule.
