These macroscopic structures spatially organize biological functions and biochemical reactions within the cell. The lab is particularly interested in understanding how biomolecular condensates contribute to proper animal embryogenesis and development. To investigate these mechanisms, the lab uses multidisciplinary approaches including biochemistry, biophysics, genome editing, cell biology, single-molecule imaging, and super-resolution imaging. The research team includes faculty, undergraduate students, and graduate students.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:

Assist in Research and Development

  • Preparation of buffers and reagents

  • Writing and updating laboratory protocols

  • Production of DNA vectors for protein expression

  • Overexpression and purification of proteins from bacterial and insect cells for biophysical characterization

  • Use biophysical methods to characterize interactions of proteins

  • Use microscopy approaches to characterize cellular phenomena and biochemical reactions

  • Collecting and assembling research data for presentation and/or reports

  • Participating in weekly meetings to discuss project progress
