Residential HVAC Service Technician

Grand Rapids, MI

Vander Hyde Mechanical - a family-owned business located on the northwest side of Grand Rapids - is seeking a motivated Residential HVAC Service Technician to join our growing team.

Vander Hyde Mechanical is a leader in residential and commercial Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical services and has proudly served West Michigan for over 36 years. Integrity, technical expertise, and high-quality service are the foundation of everything we do.

Position Overview

The Residential HVAC Service Technician is a key member of our field team, responsible for diagnosing, servicing, and repairing HVAC systems in residential environments. This role requires advanced knowledge of HVAC equipment, troubleshooting techniques, and installation best practices. Technicians ensure systems are properly set up, code-compliant, and operating safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC system issues
Perform service, repairs, and complex installations
Ensure all work meets local codes and safety standards
Maintain high standards of workmanship and customer service
Work independently and collaboratively with team members

Skills & Abilities

Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Ability to read and understand HVAC wiring diagrams
Knowledge of refrigeration cycles
Ability to lead and work effectively as part of a team
Knowledge of and ability to meet local HVAC codes
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
Ability to push, pull, carry, or maneuver heavier items
Comfortable working from heights and in confined spaces
Ability to pass a background check

Requirements

Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record
Minimum of 2 years of HVAC field experience
EPA Type II Certification or EPA Universal Certification

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $28 - $45 per hour (based on experience)
Job Type: Full-time, hourly
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (hours may vary based on demand)
