This exclusive 240-acre riverside oasis is 17 miles from Moab, 21 miles from Arches National Park and 43 miles from Canyonlands National Park. JJ’s Mercantile, an old-fashioned general store along scenic Highway 128, is reminiscent of days gone by. Located at the entrance of Sorrel River, it is a one-stop-shop for a full range of groceries; from farm-fresh vegetables, eggs, butter and fresh daily made bread; treats, snacks and other necessities along with curated gifts, camping gear and Sorrel River Ranch and JJ’s Mercantile branded apparel.Position Overview We’re looking for a dependable and customer-focused General Store Clerk to join our team. This role is the face of the store—helping customers, preparing coffee and grab-and-go items, handling sales, and keeping the store clean, stocked, and welcoming. If you enjoy working with people in a fast-paced, community-focused environment, this could be a great fit.Position Responsibilities
- Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful service
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS - Shopify) system and handle cash and card transactions accurately
- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso drinks (if applicable), and simple food items
- Stock and rotate grab-and-go food, pastries, beverages, and retail merchandise
- Maintain clean and organized displays, coffee station, and food areas
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and health guidelines
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs
- Assist with opening and closing duties as scheduled
- Support kitchen and store team as needed during busy periods
- Work efficiently to meet daily production goals and peak hours
- Collaborate with store staff to ensure displays are stocked and appealing
- Ensure products meet quality, taste, and appearance standards
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and hygiene regulations
- Monitor inventory and report ingredient or supply need
- Clean and maintain baking equipment and work areas
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends & holidays
- Perform any other job-related duties as assigned
- Previous retail, café, or customer service experience preferred (but not required)
- Comfortable handling food and beverages (Food Handler’s Certification mandatory)
- Basic math and cash-handling skills
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a busy environment
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Food safety and sanitation knowledge (Food Handler’s Certification is mandatory)
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Strong attention to detail and consistency
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift to 50 lbs.
