Job Title: Retail Clerk (Thrift Store)
Position Summary:The Retail Clerk is responsible for supporting the daily retail operations of the thrift store by delivering high-quality customer service, accurately processing sales transactions, and assisting with merchandise handling. This position plays a key role in maintaining an organized, safe, and welcoming store environment while contributing to overall operational efficiency.
Essential Functions:
Provide professional and courteous customer service to shoppers and donors.
Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems, process transactions, and handle cash in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Receive, sort, price, and prepare donated goods for display and sale.
Stock shelves, hang clothing, and maintain visually appealing merchandise displays.
Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and safety through routine housekeeping tasks.
Respond to telephone inquiries and assist with scheduling donation pickups.
Support and guide program participants/trainees in completing assigned tasks, ensuring a respectful and inclusive environment.
Safeguard confidential information and comply with applicable privacy regulations, including HIPAA requirements when applicable.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support store operations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year of retail, cashiering, or customer service experience preferred.
Proficiency in basic math and ability to operate a POS system accurately.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
Ability to work effectively and patiently with individuals with developmental disabilities.
Demonstrated reliability, integrity, and adherence to ethical standards.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and lifting.
Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
Must maintain alertness to ensure a safe environment for customers, staff, and program participants.
