Job Description

A World-Changing Company

Palantir builds the world's leading software for data-driven decisions and operations. By bringing the right data to the people who need it, our platforms empower our partners to develop lifesaving drugs, forecast supply chain disruptions, locate missing children, and more.

The Role

Palantir's dynamic Legal Team works to proactively address legal and regulatory issues as Palantir continues to drive and deliver positive impact in the world.

As a Risk and Compliance Specialist - Global Trade, you will manage and scale a first-class, global trade compliance program. You'll be a key leader within our compliance function and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to address critical global trade compliance issues such as U.S. Munitions List (USML) product classifications and defense-related export licensing, including Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs). You'll own implementation and maintenance of our trade compliance policies and trainings, and you will manage our compliance with applicable export license requirements. You'll serve as a main point of contact for forward-deployed engineering teams seeking regulatory guidance on ITAR/EAR implementation, export controls, access controls, and overseas operations. You'll also play a substantial role in conducting customer due diligence, supplier vetting and partner review to identify potential risks of doing business with third parties.

As a member of Palantir's Legal team, you'll be expected to deliver upon and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with consistency. You'll also leverage your excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, learn, and influence a global network of management-level personnel and stakeholders.

This position is ideal for someone with a desire to lead a business critical function, work independently to meet important business objectives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, and work collaboratively on strategic decisions that cut across our business and stakeholders. Above all, this position is perfect for someone eager to contribute to a dynamic and rapidly growing company that is solving some of the world's hardest problems.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage the submission of U.S. government trade controls and customs registrations, authorizations, reports and license applications, including defense-related export licenses.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to business and product teams on ITAR/EAR implementation, support the drafting or negotiation of trade compliance contract language, as well as maintain and update internal trade compliance (ITAR/EAR/OFAC) policies and training materials.
  • Triage and respond to potential export control incidents and sanctions issues, including adjudicating foreign national access to ITAR-controlled data and employee access to such data during international travel.
  • Conduct due diligence and risk assessments on third-party entities (customers, counterparties, suppliers) using range of compliance databases/tooling and public-record research.
  • Support cross-functional legal and compliance risk initiatives spanning export controls, sanctions compliance, and third-party integrity, coordinating across internal stakeholders to address emerging business needs.

What We Value

  • 5-7 years of experience on a risk or compliance team, including experience leading a function or workstream
  • Prior experience in a trade compliance role for a U.S. defense contractor and/or SaaS company with ITAR-controlled products, with hands-on experience drafting and managing TAAs and other DDTC authorizations,.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting KYC or third-party due diligence in a high-volume, fast-paced setting.
  • Proficiency in DECCS, SNAP-R, ACE, and third-party compliance screening software.

What We Require

  • At least 3 years of experience working on a risk or compliance team.
  • Must be eligible to access and work with US export-controlled and restricted materials, including ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and CUI.
  • Expert knowledge and experience drafting and applying for export and import authorizations.
  • Understanding of the overlap and distinctions between U.S. trade controls and U.S. Department of Defense CUI controls, and ability to assist with terms of use compliance for U.S. government-furnished CUI.
  • Strong program/project management skills, including organizational skills and ability to handle projects with competing deadlines.
