Job Description
Avera HealthWork Shift:Day Shift (United States of America)The pay range for this position is listed below. Be part of a multidisciplinary team built with compassion and the goal of Moving Health Forward for you and our patients. Acts as the system subject matter expert in the practice of infection control and regulatory expert for both CMS and state requirements. This position is responsible for the development, coordination, and maintenance of Avera-wide programming that will ensure delivery of safe patient and resident care where Infection Prevention services are required. This includes, but is not limited to Avera-wide program planning, surveillance, reporting, prevention and education. Infection prevention programming and educational programs will be focused on improving quality and patient and resident outcomes and well as in overseeing surveillance work. The IPC actively mentors other Infection Preventionists (IPs) in the system, providing a foundation for new IPs, ongoing retention for existing IPs, and future certification of IPs across the enterprise.Maintains an expert level with working knowledge of current infection prevention practices and a thorough understanding of infection control measures, definitions and discerning differences among national bodies including but not limited to CMS, NHSN and CDC.Maintains current knowledge by utilizing infection prevention literature, membership in infection prevention professional associations and ongoing review of regulatory language related to infection prevention.Assesses health safety risks related to infections and facilitates implementation of system infection prevention programming by utilizing Avera-wide program plans, risk assessments, templates and policy standardization.Embraces data driven approach to problem solving, including the use of technology to expand infection prevention using available data sources including but not limited to Clinical Intelligence and NHSN.Supports implementation of Avera-wide Infection Prevention strategy as directed by the Avera Infection Prevention Medical Director and / or outlined in the Avera Annual Quality Plan. Coordinates system infection surveillance work.Monitors performance in relevant areas according to established standards and definitions and takes necessary steps to communicate/advise/assist leaders and infection prevention experts according to performance levels.Conducts regulatory driven, on-site visits with the clinical service and quality executives of owned and managed facilities, to support continued improvement and ongoing survey readiness.Collaborates with other Avera subject matter experts, core teams, education, communication to stakeholders, and the subsequent documentation to support the ongoing success of infection prevention initiatives.Coordinates system IPs through monthly meetings used for communication, education, and policy sharing. Assesses and balances IP program requirements with the needs of the LTC Strategic Business Unit.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds.
