Job Description

Company Overview:

Allen Control Systems (ACS) is a cutting-edge defense startup founded by two former Navy electrical engineers with a proven track record in robotics and software. We are developing a small, autonomous gun turret that employs advanced computer vision and control systems to precisely target and neutralize small drones and loitering munitions. Our innovative approach requires overcoming significant technical challenges, making this an exciting and dynamic environment for experienced engineers.

With an engineering-first culture, ACS values technical excellence and innovation. Backed by our founders’ successful exits from two previous ventures acquired for a combined $180M in 2022, we are committed to ensuring that the groundbreaking technologies we develop have a real-world impact.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Robotics Software Test Technician to execute hands-on testing of robotic systems and software. In this role, you will validate control algorithms, perception pipelines, and software features through structured testing to ensure each software deployment improves system safety, reliability, and performance. You will work closely with robotics and software engineers to identify issues, document results, and help drive continuous improvements in system capability.

What You'll Do:

  • Operate a robot, following test protocols to verify system performance.
  • Test computer vision and perception systems, including tracking reliability across varied lighting conditions, occlusions, and edge-case environments.
  • Run manual and automated tests to ensure new software releases do not break existing functionality.
  • Create detailed bug reports including reproduction steps, logs, and environmental context.
  • Analyze test results and generate performance reports using scripting or visualization tools.
  • Track and document success/failure rates and performance metrics across test scenarios.
  • Troubleshoot issues at the hardware–software interface to help isolate root causes.

Required Technical Skills:

  • High School Diploma
  • 2-3 years of experience as a Test Technician working with Robotics software
  • Proficiency with Linux/Ubuntu command-line environments.
  • Ability to read, modify, and write Python or Bash scripts for testing and automation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical intuition when diagnosing system behavior.
  • Well-versed with control loops, perception and computer vision and regression testing.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and documentation.
  • Able to work on-site in our Austin, TX location.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary
  • ACS Equity Package
  • Health, Dental, Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
