We don't just talk about progress and innovation here - we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

This position works with the Rotary Blasthole Drills machine systems team to develop, integrate, validate, and maintain complex electrical, electronic, and software systems for Drill products. The role requires close collaboration with cross‑functional partners to drive system architecture, electrical schematic development, electronic hardware selection, software requirement definition, and system integration strategies.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in electrical and electronic system troubleshooting, control software validation, and wiring system design.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with machine system teams to develop electrical subsystems, select electronic components, and define software and diagnostic requirements.
  • Lead the creation, review, and approval of electrical/electronic system requirements used for product software development and electronic hardware integration.
  • Manage Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) bench strategy and planning for NPI programs, ensuring coverage of key system interactions.
  • Analyze machine electrical, electronic, and software architectures to define system behavior, configuration parameters, and integration dependencies.
  • Lead root‑cause analysis and resolution of electrical/electronic and software‑related issues identified during NPI, CPI, and validation activities.
  • Provide ongoing support for current production programs, including software batch updates, CPI initiatives, and hardware/software change management processes.
  • Support development and optimization of machine diagnostic strategies, including service tool updates, fault handling, and troubleshooting guidance.
  • Review and interpret machine test data, event logs, and operator feedback to verify system performance and software/hardware functionality.
  • Provide technical guidance for wiring harness design, routing, installation, and adherence to electrical system best practices across development programs.

What You Will Have:

Teamwork

Proven ability to collaborate with global cross‑functional teams-including software engineering, validation, machine systems engineering, and electronic hardware groups-to successfully deliver integrated system solutions.

Requirements Analysis

Extensive experience defining machine system requirements, translating them into software specifications, identifying electronic hardware needs, and validating performance through structured test plans and procedures.

Effective Communications

Demonstrated capability to communicate technical information, diagnostic insights, system risks, and project status clearly and effectively to engineers, leadership, field teams, and suppliers.

Analytical Thinking

Strong analytical skills with experience in root‑cause analysis, troubleshooting electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and software integration issues, and implementing corrective actions across engineering boundaries.

Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • Advanced degree in Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering
  • Extensive experience designing, validating, and troubleshooting complex electronic control systems
  • Deep knowledge of Caterpillar electrical/electronic systems across multiple product families (BCP, Track‑Type Tractors, Track Loaders, Excavators)
  • Experience developing and executing validation plans, building test procedures, and analyzing software/hardware test data
  • Strong background in wiring harness design, routing, production build support, and electrical installation troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of FMEA processes, electronic failure modes, and engineering governance (validation procedures, Safe Job Procedures, best‑practice documentation)
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, troubleshoot wiring systems, and support field and lab diagnostics
  • Demonstrated leadership through team coordination, project ownership, and cross‑functional technical issue resolution
  • Proven customer focus, including hands‑on field troubleshooting, software flashing, CAN network setup, and system debugging
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and reporting skills across long‑duration engineering and NPI programs
