Job Description

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Safety and Security, is responsible for conducting routine inspections for all Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) properties and takes the necessary steps and precautions to ensure OPSB properties are safe and secure. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts daily vacant property inspections and reports findings to the Executive Director of Safety and Security. 
  • Conducts routine school and athletic bus inspections as needed; 
  • Investigates all safety-related complaints and secures buildings at the request of the Executive Director of Property Management/Designee. 
  • Creates requisitions for needed purchase orders and completes entries into MUNIS; 
  • Reports any unusual conditions at district properties and makes appropriate recommendations; 
  • Troubleshoots all safety challenges and is solutions-orientated when reviewing needs with the Executive Director of Safety and Security. 
  • Prepares safety reports on ALL incidents that occur while on duty; including but not limited to involving weapons, narcotics, assaults, theft, etc., and forward reports to the Executive Director of Property Management/Designee for dissemination. 
  • Monitors the district’s hotline and responds and/or routes calls to the appropriate person; 
  • Manages all administrative and operational needs for contracted security force details; 
  • Serves as a key member of the crisis management team in responding to exigencies of the day or emergencies as they occur, fashioning a coordinated effort that is communicated both within and outside the school district and to key stakeholders; 
  • Maintains and secures the district key cabinet that contains all keys to NOLA PS school facilities;  
  • Notifies the Executive Director of Property Safety and Security/Designee on duty by telephone immediately when a serious incident occurs and to forward all others the next working day. 
  • Monitors, reports, and takes appropriate action on safety violations; 
  • Maintains post directives as assigned by the Site Administrators; 
  • Works as a response unit member handling special needs within the Orleans Parish School District; 
  • Works to identify areas that are in need of safety for specific purposes; and 
  • Performs other duties as required. 

Education and Experience 

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required. 
  • POST certification required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience or comparable private security experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred. 
  • Experience working in a school setting is strongly preferred. 
  • Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License.

Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Eligibility or completion of a major law enforcement academy preferred. 
  • Expertise in area of specialization. 
  • Successful completion of a major law enforcement academy preferred. 
  • Knowledge of law enforcement and safety practices. 
  • Must possess excellent writing and verbal skills. 
  • Physical ability to affect arrest under difficult circumstances.  
  • Post certification preferred. 
  • Must pass drug screening test. 
  • All applicants must be able to work flexible hours and workday assignments. 
$45,400 - $72,110 a year

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the workday;

- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely; 
- Normal setting for this job is an office/school setting.     
Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS/LEADS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS/LEADS to ensure renewal of certification.
