PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, headquartered in Andalusia, AL, is a generation and transmission (G&T) electric cooperative with 22 distribution members - 18 electric distribution systems and four municipal electric systems - in Alabama and northwest Florida. JOB SUMMARY & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the Safety Manager in the Cooperative's accident prevention and loss control program through on-site visits to the Cooperative's different locations, accident investigation for worker's compensation claims, develop safety and health training programs, maintain DOT driver records as well as training and required drug screens. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related area and a minimum of five (5) years of experience, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing background. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, this position requires an Associate degree in a related area and a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience. The incumbent should be familiar with industry safety and health standards and possess the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides assistance to the Safety Manager with the Cooperative's loss prevention program and safety policies and procedures in order to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations and to minimize liability of the Cooperative.
• Assists with on-site visits to the Cooperative's different locations to identify potential safety and health hazards and to make recommendations for remedial actions.
• Implements, administers, maintains records, and coordinates various safety programs including safety audits and recommendations as well as DOT, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, first aid/CPR, forklift certification, etc., to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with established procedures and pertinent regulatory guidelines; consults with management and supervisors to encourage, promote, monitor, and report safety awareness.
• Assists the Safety Manager in the safety and health training program for all levels of employees in order to enhance safety and job performance through education and instruction.
• Performs annual audiograms and pulmonary function test for employees exposed to excessive noise levels and potentially dangerous air contaminants.
• Performs annual sling and fall protection certification; coordinates rubber gloves and goods testing every six months.
• Assists the Safety Manager with CMV driver training, DOT physicals, file maintenance and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Responsible for ensuring the success of PowerSouth by promoting teamwork, group goals and objectives, properly communicating and cooperating within the PowerSouth organization and with member systems as well as demonstrating and promoting standards of respect and dignity, accountability, integrity, and trustworthiness.
