Position OverviewA well-established Texas roadway infrastructure and traffic control organization is seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead company-wide safety, compliance, training, and risk management initiatives.This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position that combines field and office responsibilities. The Safety Director will regularly visit job sites and facilities throughout Texas while ensuring compliance with OSHA, TxDOT, DOT/FMCSA, MUTCD, and other applicable safety standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
- Conduct jobsite, facility, fleet, and equipment safety audits to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Lead new-hire safety orientations, toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and ongoing employee training.
- Train employees on work zone safety, PPE, fall protection, confined spaces, heavy equipment, flagging, and other safety requirements.
- Investigate accidents, injuries, and near misses, including root-cause analysis and corrective action planning.
- Track and report key safety metrics, including TRIR, DART rates, and preventable accidents.
- Oversee DOT/FMCSA fleet compliance, including driver qualification files, DVIRs, drug/alcohol testing, hours-of-service requirements, and load securement.
- Oversee vehicle/equipment telematics and support safe fleet operations.
- Conduct driver safety training and reinforce safe driving practices.
- Maintain emergency response and preparedness procedures for jobsites and facilities.
- Partner with operations managers, supervisors, and field crews to strengthen a proactive safety culture.
- Serve as a company liaison with local, state, and federal safety regulators.
- 10+ years of safety experience within construction, roadway/traffic control, utilities, heavy equipment, or a related industry.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, TxDOT, MUTCD, FMCSA/DOT, and ANSI standards.
- Experience managing both field safety and fleet/DOT compliance.
- Strong leadership, communication, training, and incident investigation skills.
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- OSHA 30, CSP, CHST, CPR/First Aid, or similar safety certifications preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
- Ability to travel throughout Texas to jobsites and company facilities.
- $90, 000$110, 000 annual salary, based on experience and qualifications.
