Job Description

Location: Columbia, MDTravel: Up to 25% (Supporting corporate and overseas efforts)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Safety Engineer to lead our safety initiatives. In this critical role, you will act as the primary safety expert for both our domestic operations and international projects, specifically focused on operations in the USA and Poland. You will ensure that our designs, policies, and onsite practices meet the highest global standards, including US MIL-STD, OSHA, and local EU/Polish regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations and equipment comply with US OSHAMIL-STD (882E), FAR 52.236-13EU Machinery Directives, and Polish Labor Laws (Kodeks pracy). Ensure hazmat compliance to OSHA 1910 and AR-200-1.
  • Design Reviews: Conduct technical safety reviews of new machinery, equipment, facility plans and maintenance concepts to ensure "Safety in Design" from the concept phase through sustainment in field support operations.
  • Safety Assessments: Author and maintain comprehensive Safety Assessment Reports (SAR) and hazard analyses (e.g., FMEA, HAZOP, JSA).
  • Auditing & Monitoring: Lead regular safety audits and inspections of corporate and overseas sites to identify hazards and verify corrective actions.
  • Training & Development: Design and deliver specialized safety training programs for a global, diverse workforce, simplifying complex regulatory requirements into actionable best practices.
  • Policy & Procedure Writing: Draft, implement, and update corporate-wide safety policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) that align with international standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in safety engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 10+ years of demonstrable experience in safety engineering with a strong focus on international projects.
  • Regulatory Mastery:
    • Deep knowledge of EU Safety Directives and Polish safety requirements.
      • Expert-level understanding of US OSHA and Department of Defense MIL-STD safety protocols (Including, but not limited to: AR 385-10, DA PAM 385-40, DoDI 6055.07, and MIL-STD-882E)
  • Certification: Professional certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH, or equivalent EU/international certifications (e.g., NEBOSH International Diploma) is highly preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with safety management software and digital auditing tools.
  • Proven track record of managing safety for complex, high-risk industrial or military-related projects.
  • proficiency in Polish is a significant advantage for supporting overseas efforts
  • Familiarity with Radar operating safety and cold weather personnel safety.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and legal teams across multiple time zones.

In compliance with state and local laws, the salary range for this role is $113,000 - $137,000. The range provided is a general guideline and good faith estimate representative of all experience levels but is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. TCOM considers several factors when extending an offer including, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, a candidate’s experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
