Job Description

  • Conducts EHS inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulations and to identify risk
  • Assists with training and onboarding of all new hires, including temporary workers
  • Conducts and acts as a SafeStart coordinator and trainer
  • Administrative coordinator of safety committees, audit, inspection and observation programs
  • Acts and assists as a First Responder with onsite medical issues
  • Investigates/responds to all incidents/accidents during shift
  • Supports Supervisors with Incident Investigations
  • Assists with data collection via audits, inspections and incidents to identify risk, through closure of corrective actions
  • Oversees the online chemical management program EcoOnline
  • Oversees the online LOTO and confined space procedures Link360
  • Assists with contractor management including obtaining qualifications, documentation, training and observations
  • Oversees the PPE and first aid program including ordering supplies and conducting inspections
  • Conducts observations and coaches' employees on the floor
  • Assists the leadership team to support a safe working environment
  • Monitors daily worker related safety issues and PPE compliance
  • Conducts training which can range from classroom to on-the-job training
  • Submits safety work orders as needed
  • Participates in and may conduct pre-shift meetings to address safety related concerns
  • Participates in safety committee meetings
  • Ability to work all shifts, including split shifts
  • Other duties as assigned
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Well-developed and demonstrated English-language communications (both written and verbal), interpersonal, and decision-making abilities
  • Reliability, decisiveness, good judgment, assertiveness, flexibility, persistence, and patience
  • The ability to strictly enforce rules and regulations with diplomacy and tact
  • Uses excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, departments, members of management, vendors and federal, state and local officials
  • Maintains the utmost confidentiality in dealing with employee personnel issues and business information
  • Ability to work with multiple cultures and languages
  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time in the production environment
  • Must work in -5° to 80° Fahrenheit for short durations
  • Must be available for overtime as needed
  • Experience in safety, food handling or food processing, and knowledge of safety regulations is preferred, but not mandatory
  • Needs to be company oriented
  • Flexible with work hours
  • Knowledge of basic safety regulations (OSHA), inspection procedures, incident prevention, incident investigation techniques and safety training is a plus.
  • Food Industry experience and bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.

Plant Environment:

The plant work environment will expose the employee to loud noise, food grade dust & odors, moving & vibrating machinery, heavy equipment, powered industrial trucks, heights, traffic, anhydrous ammonia, oil, electricity. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme cold (-5 degrees F), heat (80 degrees F), rain, snow, dust, smoke and odors.

Allergens found inside the plant include fish, shellfish, nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, milk and coconut.
