Safety Manager
Northern Virginia
Salary $80,000-$95,000
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Risk, Safety & Health, the Safety Manager is responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture across the Infrastructure Services Division. This role conducts field safety inspections, project safety audits, employee safety training, and OSHA compliance activities while partnering with operational leaders to reduce risk and ensure a safe work environment.
The Safety Manager will play a key role in developing and implementing safety policies, identifying workplace hazards, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives that protect employees, clients, and the public.
Travel throughout the assigned region is required.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance
- Promote a positive safety culture and actively engage employees in safety initiatives.
- Conduct field safety inspections, audits, and jobsite observations.
- Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and improving company safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Notify the Director of Risk, Safety & Health of compliance concerns or policy violations.
- Stay current on industry best practices, emerging safety standards, and regulatory updates.
Training & Employee Development
- Lead and coordinate required safety training programs.
- Conduct toolbox talks and other safety awareness meetings.
- Educate employees on safe work practices and hazard recognition.
- Support ongoing employee engagement in safety initiatives.
Risk Management & Reporting
- Analyze incident and injury data to identify trends and recommend preventive measures.
- Prepare safety reports and track key safety performance metrics.
- Assist with client safety meetings and required reporting.
- Support company initiatives to reduce workers' compensation claims and insurance costs.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for hazardous materials used on projects.
Operational Support
- Present project safety updates to Regional Managers and the Director of Risk, Safety & Health.
- Provide safety guidance and support to project teams, regional leadership, and support staff.
- Collaborate across departments to improve overall operational safety performance.
Additional Responsibilities
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of accountability.
- Demonstrate initiative by identifying needs and taking action proactively.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, project teams, and support staff.
- Contribute positively to team goals and organizational success.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated ability to influence and engage leaders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety principles and OSHA regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships across multiple departments.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and prioritization skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Dependable, organized, professional, and adaptable in changing environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout the assigned region.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Frequent use of computers, keyboards, mobile devices, and other office equipment.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and reach as needed.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone.
