Komatsu is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership across our Remanufacturing operations. Working in close partnership with the Global EHS team, this role will play a critical part in embedding a strong, consistent, and proactive safety culture across the business.

Reporting to the General Manager, this leadership position is responsible for developing and deploying Komatsu's national EHS strategy, ensuring legislative compliance, mitigating organisational risk, and driving continuous improvement across multi-site operations.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure the successful delivery, implementation and administration and refinement of Safety policies, procedures, and best management practices.
  • Manage all Safety activities within the operational context and guide operations towards the achievement of compliance with national, customer, and company standards and best management practices. Ensure that plans are consistent with overall North America safety strategies and corporate mandates.
  • Assist management in the leadership, development and coordination of North America safety representatives; set and communicate goals, strategic direction and priorities to ensure success.
  • Interface and influence operations and Safety personnel to ensure the proper analysis, documentation, communication and implementation of corrective actions items for all incidents of loss (i.e., injury, illnesses, liability, property and near miss). When necessary assume the leadership role in the investigation of serious or otherwise significant incidents of loss.
  • Collect, record, analyze and communicate key performance metrics on a regular basis (i.e., daily, monthly, quarterly and annually) to effectively facilitate the advancement of the organization's Safey initiatives.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (both internal and external) and divisional counterparts in the identification and prioritization of Safety policies, procedures and best management practices. Key external stakeholders include local clinics, hospitals, colleges, local Professional Organizations and customer counterparts.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Safety, Health and Environmental Management or related field
  • Minimum 5 years practical EHS experience in manufacturing sectors with increasing roles and responsibilities and a minimum of years previous management experience.
  • Understanding of ISO 45001 and 14001 systems and auditing practices
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all Federal, State and OH&S regulations and standards as they relate to General Industry and Minig operations (OSHA, MSHA, DOT, EPA, DEP, etc).
  • OSHA 500 Train the Trainer and additional training expertise in DOT, EPA, DNR, Hazardous Communication, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection, Hoisting and Rigging/Crane Operator Safety Training, Aerial Work Platform, and behavioral based safety management are desired.
  • Knowledge of Workers' Compensation Claims Management and best management practices.
  • Capability to maintain multiple accountabilities and relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills combined with the ability to influence and coach others to receive and manage change.
  • Considerable ability to plan and prioritize Safety initiatives and work with others to execute strategic priorities.
  • Strong capability to lead organization through change and ability to lead multiple projects.
  • Proficient computer skills
