POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT

The Safety Technician I is an entry-level, learning role designed as a steppingstone into the Safety Technician career path. This role supports the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team with basic safety program tasks and documentation while learning Moss Solar's safety standards, systems, and expectations. Safety Technician I roles are intended primarily for hourly/salary workers converting into full-time positions. There are no prior experience, education, or certification requirements; the focus is on learning, developing foundational safety skills, and demonstrating Moss values in the field.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Safety Technician I performs the following duties under close guidance and supervision from the Safety Technician II, Safety Coordinator, or Project Safety Manager:
  • Shadow and assist with safety walks and field inspections.
  • Support execution and monitoring of safety programs in collaboration with trades.
  • Assist with documenting observations and hazard IDs in Moss systems (e.g., Procore, Intelex), as directed.
  • Participate in site safety orientations, tailgate meetings, and trainings as a learner and, over time, as a basic facilitator with coaching.
  • Help ensure PPE and basic safety materials are available and properly used on site (e.g., restocking stations, checking signage).
  • Assist with basic safety reporting and recordkeeping (e.g., sign-in sheets, training rosters, hazard logs) as directed.
  • Help collect and organize field data related to safety activities and incidents.
  • Support the Safety team with preparation of meeting materials and safety communications.
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and required safety coursework.
  • Ask questions, seek clarification, and apply coaching received from the Safety team.
  • Learn Moss Solar safety policies, procedures, and best practices, including OSHA/industrial safety fundamentals.
  • Build a basic understanding of daily tasks, work sequencing, and how safety supports overall project goals.
  • Build positive working relationships with field teams and subcontractors.
  • Support site management in reinforcing compliance with Moss programs and policies.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance, follow-through, and a strong work ethic.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Safety Technician, Safety Coordinator, or Project Safety Manager.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • No prior safety experience required.
  • No formal education or degree requirements.
  • Prior craft/field experience in construction or solar (any trade) is welcomed but not required.
  • This role is specifically designed as a development path for hourly/salary workers seeking to convert to a full-time safety career.
  • No certifications required at time of hire.
  • Must achieve the OSHA 30 within 6 months of hire.
  • Willingness to complete Moss-required safety training and work toward future safety credentials is expected.
  • Valid Driver's License with a driving record that meets Moss standards (required to drive company vehicles if/when assigned).
