Murphy USA is seeking a Sales, Operations & Asset Protection Intern with strong written and verbal communication skills, Microsoft Office proficiency, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This internship provides exposure to both operational excellence and asset protection strategies within the retail convenience industry.
The intern will apply business knowledge in a real-world environment by assisting with operational planning, research, reporting, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. In addition, the intern will gain hands-on experience supporting Asset Protection efforts focused on loss prevention, investigative processes, shrink mitigation strategies, and risk reduction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support sales and operations planning initiatives through research, reporting, and process improvement analysis.
- Assist in analyzing operational data to identify trends, performance gaps, and opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Help plan and design business processes and recommend solutions that improve store-level and field execution.
- Assist in launching and tracking new operational initiatives and projects.
- Support Asset Protection efforts by investigating potential sources of loss, shrink, or operational non-compliance.
- Learn to utilize exception-based reporting tools to identify unusual transactions, inventory variances, and potential risk indicators.
- Assist in reviewing and analyzing video surveillance systems to support investigations and operational audits.
- Partner with field teams to help monitor and manage various loss control and prevention tools.
- Estimate costs and benefits of proposed operational or asset protection solutions and provide recommendations.
- Complete additional projects and assignments as requested.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education and Experience:
Pursuing a degree in Business, Criminal Justice, Finance, Operations Management, or a related field at an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Experience with PowerPoint, Word, and Excel preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort working with data, reporting tools, and basic financial analysis.
- Interest in retail operations, loss prevention, and asset protection practices.
