Job Description

The Department of Defense Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and growing strategic relationships within Federal Defense agencies while driving profitability across an existing portfolio of government payment programs and solutions. This leader identifies growth opportunities and strategic revenue initiatives through a deep understanding of federal agency operations, government regulations, market trends, and payment industry solutions.

In addition to managing key client relationships, this position provides leadership and direction to a team of portfolio relationship and account managers. The role is accountable for team performance, program optimization, service excellence, business development, and overall business unit management. The Department of Defense Manager serves as a senior liaison between agency clients and internal partners while driving strategic initiatives that support client success and organizational growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage Department of Defense and Federal agency client relationships while generating profitability from existing portfolios and payment solutions.
  • Identify growth opportunities and strategic revenue initiatives based on knowledge of agency clients, market conditions, government regulations, and bank products and services.
  • Achieve or exceed assigned sales, revenue, retention, and program optimization goals.
  • Conduct Executive Account Reviews, strategic business reviews, and client presentations with senior government stakeholders.
  • Build, lead, and develop a team of portfolio relationship managers and account managers.
  • Create and execute business strategies in partnership with leadership teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Serve as the senior-level liaison between agency clients and internal business partners to ensure successful program delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop employees on strategic initiatives, performance expectations, professional development, and goal achievement.
  • Lead program optimization, continuous improvement, and service excellence initiatives.
  • Oversee day-to-day management of the business unit, including staffing utilization, budget management, training completion, employee engagement, and community involvement efforts.
  • Partner with product, operations, implementation, and risk teams to support federal agency programs and long-term client success.
  • Utilize data analysis and business insights to identify trends, measure performance, and recommend strategic actions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in the payments industry.
  • 10 or more years of relevant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of the payments industry.
  • Proven leadership and personnel management experience.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% to 15% as business needs require.
  • Seven or more years of product sales, relationship management, or client management experience.
  • Experience leading teams with five or more direct reports.
  • Strong understanding of federal government contracting requirements, procurement processes, and regulatory policies.
  • Familiarity with the GSA SmartPay program and government payment solutions.
  • Considerable knowledge of product marketing, client service, and organizational operations.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, revenue growth, and strategic account management.
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM platforms.
  • Strong negotiation, influence, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to solve complex business challenges with limited guidance.
  • Strong project management and implementation experience.
  • Experience leveraging data mining, reporting, and trend analysis to drive business decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. Pay Range: $157,230.00 - 192,170.00
